Hello Friends. Today I am here with very Basic Project Based on IR sensor working. Friends as we know that Sensors are the vital part of electronics, especially in Robotics and Automation. Sensors in electronic devices make our life easy by automatically sense and control the devices, without human interaction.In this article, I am going to explain about IR (infrared) sensor module which is very popular nowadays. And you guys can also use this article as a Best Project Report/Synopsis or Make PPT for Your Engineering Projects.

Introduction to IR sensor Working Mini Project

An infrared  sensor circuit module is one of the basic and popular sensor module in an electronic device. This sensor is symmetrical to human’s imaginative senses, which can be used to detect obstacles and it is one of the common applications in real time . An IR sensor can detect the object as well as detects the motion. These types of sensors measures only infrared radiation, rather than emitting it that is called as a passive IR sensor.

The infrared spectrum, all the objects radiate some form of thermal radiations.These types of radiations are  invisible to our eyes, that can be detected by an infrared sensor.The emitter is simply an IR LED (Light Emitting Diode) and the detector is simply an IR photodiode which is sensitive to IR light of the same wavelength as that emitted by the IR LED.When IR light falls on the photodiode, The resistances and these output voltages, change in proportion to the magnitude of the IR light received. This IR sensor working Project is quite Simple and easy to build.

Use of IC LM 358

The LM358 IC is a great, low power and easy to use dual channel op-amp IC.. It consists of two internally frequency compensated, high gain, independent op-amps.This IC is designed for specially to operate from a single power supply over a wide range of voltages. LM358 IC is a good, standard operational amplifier and it is suitable for your needs. Here in This IR sensor working project LM358 IC plays a very vital role for voltage Comparison of two Comparative Sources.

 

Photodiode

A silicon photodiode is a solid-state device which converts incident light into an electric current. Photodiode is a semiconductor which has a P-N junction, operated in Reverse Bias, means it start conducting the current in reverse direction when Light falls on it, and the amount of current flow is proportional to the amount of Light.

IR LED

IR LED emits light, in the range of Infrared frequency. Everything which produce heat, emits infrared like for example our human body. Infrared have the same properties as visible light, like it can be focused, reflected and polarised like visible light.IR LED looks like a normal LED and also operates like a normal LED, it consumes 20mA current and 3vots power.

A resistor is a passive two-terminal electrical component that implements electrical resistance as a circuit element.In electronic circuits, resistors are used to reduce current flow, adjust signal levels, to divide voltages, bias active elements, and terminate transmission lines, among other uses.

 

Hook Up wire

Hook up Wire is a single insulated conductor wire in the family of lead wire that may be used for low voltage, low current applications. The lead wire is frequently used in control panels, automotives, meters, ovens, internal wiring of computers, electronic equipment, business machines, and appliances.

 

Variable Resistor

Variable resistor is an electronic component that is used to vary the amount of current that flows through a circuit. It works by sliding a wiper terminal across a resistive material.

 

Breadboard

A breadboard is a solderless device for temporary prototype with electronics and test circuit designs. Most electronic components in electronic circuits can be interconnected by inserting their leads or terminals into the holes and then making connections through wires where appropriate.

 

Buzzer

A buzzer or beeper is an audio signaling device, which may be mechanical, electromechanical, or piezoelectric. Typical uses of buzzers and beepers include alarm devices, timers and confirmation of user input such as a mouse click or keystroke.

 

Battery

When a battery is supplying electric power, its positive terminal is the cathode, and its negative terminal is the anode. The terminals are the source of electrons that when connect to an external circuit. It will flow and deliver energy to an external device. When we join the battery to an external circuit, electrolytes can move as ions within, allowing the chemical reactions to be completed at the separate terminals and so deliver energy to the external circuit. It is the movement of those ions within the battery which allows current to flow out.

Circuit & Operation of IR sensor working Project

1 . In this IR sensor working project, the transmitter section includes an IR sensor, which transmits continuous IR rays to be receive by an IR receiver module.

2 . An IR output terminal of the receiver varies depending upon its receiving of IR rays.

3 .  This Voltage variation  we can not analyze, therefore this output is fed to a comparator IC.

 4 .  Here an operational amplifier (op-amp) of LM 385 is using as a comparator IC. When the IR receiver does not receive a signal, the potential at the inverting input goes higher than that non-inverting input of the comparator IC (LM358).

5 .  When The output of the comparator goes low, but the buzzer does not beep. When the IR receiver receives signal to the potential at the inverting input goes low.

6 . Thus the output of the comparator (LM 358) goes high and the buzzer  starts beeping . Here use of Resistor R1 (470), R2 (10k )  to ensure that minimum 10 mA current passes through the IR LED Devices like Photodiode and normal LEDs respectively.

7 .  Resistor VR2 (preset=5k ) is used to adjust the output terminals. Resistor VR1 (preset=10k ) is used to set the sensitivity of the circuit Diagram.

Applications of IR sensor Working Project

  1. IR based security system can be use as a home security system.
  2. It can be use as security purpose in shops ,farm and various place.
  3. This is generally beneficial for the Industries to generate alarm during identify the empty filling machine.
